Developer YourTRIBE has taken a significant step towards enhancing the student accommodation landscape in London by submitting plans to Greenwich Council for a new mixed-use development. The proposal includes a striking 27-storey purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) tower, which will feature an impressive 673 student beds, alongside a 23-storey co-living tower comprising 380 residential units.
The Development Plans
Located adjacent to the Silvertown tunnel entrance and a former gas holder site, the development site on Millennium Way has been earmarked in local plans for redevelopment. This strategic location offers easy access to key transport links and educational institutions. Aitch Construction and YourTRIBE completed the acquisition of the site earlier this year, positioning the project for swift advancement.
Support from Educational Institutions
The proposed towers will be conveniently situated near prominent educational establishments, including North Greenwich Station, Ravensbourne University, the University of Greenwich, and the Greenwich campus of Coventry University London. Jon Kingsbury, the Vice Chancellor of Ravensbourne University, has expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting ongoing communications with YourTRIBE since 2022 regarding the site’s development plans. He emphasised the critical need for affordable, high-quality residential options for students, noting that the increasing student population in London necessitates purpose-built housing solutions to alleviate pressure on the local housing market and enhance student satisfaction.
Amenities and Sustainability Features
The ambitious plans for both towers include a rooftop terrace offering stunning views of the River Thames, as well as a range of amenities designed to foster a vibrant community. Features will encompass games rooms, social lounges, dedicated study areas, and a gym, catering to the diverse needs of students and residents. Furthermore, the development is designed to be car-free, incorporating four accessible parking spaces and providing 338 long-stay and 190 short-stay cycle spaces to promote sustainable transport options.
