Norland College

Norland College is a specialist higher education institution located in Bath, England, renowned for its early childhood education and nanny training programs. The college was founded in 1892 by educational pioneer Emily Ward in Norland Place, London, establishing the world's first formal institution dedicated to childcare training. Emily Ward's vision aimed to professionalize childcare, emphasizing structured, child-centred, loving, and nurturing approaches based on the educational principles of Friedrich Fröbel. This initiative transformed childcare from an informal role performed by untrained housemaids into a recognized profession. In 2003, Norland College relocated its campus to York Villa in Bath, where it continues its educational mission.

Norland College was granted Taught Degree Awarding Powers in 2019, with indefinite degree awarding powers confirmed in 2025.
