Far East Orchard Limited, established in 1967, operates as a real estate company with a lodging platform that aims to achieve sustainable and recurring income through a diversified and balanced portfolio. Its operations span key markets including Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Listed on the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange, Far East Orchard is also a member of Far East Organization, Singapore's largest private property developer.
Following a strategic transformation initiated in 2012, Far East Orchard expanded its focus to include hospitality management and investments in healthcare real estate. The company's hospitality arm, Far East Hospitality, along with its joint venture Toga Far East Hotels, manages a substantial portfolio. This portfolio encompasses over 100 properties and more than 18,000 rooms across numerous countries, including Australia, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. These properties operate under 10 distinct brands, reflecting the firm's broad reach in the global hospitality sector.
Far East Orchard diversified its portfolio in 2015 by entering the Purpose-built Student Accommodation (PBSA) market in the UK. The company's PBSA portfolio currently includes over 3,700 beds situated across key cities within the UK. Additionally, three new PBSA developments are underway in Bristol, Glasgow, and Manchester. Upon the completion of these projects, the firm's UK PBSA portfolio is projected to exceed 4,900 beds across 16 properties. In 2024, Far East Orchard acquired a 49% stake in Homes for Students ("HFS"), a prominent UK PBSA operator managing over 50,000 beds, further increasing its stake to 84% in September 2025. This acquisition, combined with the establishment of a private student accommodation fund, has strengthened the company's position in the UK market, bringing its total owned and managed portfolio to over 55,000 beds.
