A builder has reported that construction work is moving forward rapidly at a significant student accommodation development in Edinburgh, which will cater to over 600 students. This ambitious project is situated at a former gasworks and naval yard, where three historic buildings are being preserved amid the development.
Progress on the Baltic Street Development
McAleer and Rush, the construction firm behind the project, stated: “Works are advancing at pace on Baltic Street, a landmark 604-bed Purpose-Built Student Accommodation development for HUB, funded by Bridges Fund Management Limited and HGP.” The current on-site activities include the progression of the concrete structure across three new build blocks, along with ongoing work on foundations and drainage systems. Additionally, piling is in progress within existing structures, and external temporary façade retention frames, blockwork, and façade installations have commenced.
Transforming the Leith Area
This large-scale regeneration project is not only significant for its size but also for its focus on sustainability and historical preservation. Located in Leith, the development is transforming a former gasworks and naval yard into the largest single-site PBSA scheme within Edinburgh.
