A recent groundbreaking ceremony has heralded the commencement of construction at Alumno’s latest purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) project, which will feature 262 beds located on St George’s Road in Glasgow’s vibrant west end. This significant development signifies a robust investment into the UK PBSA market, designed to meet the increasing demand for quality student living spaces.
Development Details
The new six-storey facility will be realised by the main contractor Clark Contracts, who have been selected to oversee the complete design and build of the project. The accommodation will include a carefully curated mix of four and five-bed cluster flats alongside modern studio apartments. Residents will benefit from a variety of shared amenities, including a welcoming ground floor common room, spacious dining areas on the sixth floor, dedicated study zones, lounge spaces, and beautifully landscaped courtyard areas.
Community Focus
David Campbell, the CEO of Alumno, expressed the vision behind the project, stating, “Student accommodation should feel like part of a neighbourhood, not separate from it. This development has been shaped by a deep understanding of Woodlands and is designed to foster a genuine sense of belonging for students while respecting the area’s existing character.” Campbell further emphasised that the design prioritises wellbeing, shared spaces, and social interactions, thereby creating a supportive community for students during a pivotal stage in their lives. This approach not only benefits the students but is also expected to bring lasting social and economic advantages to the surrounding area.
Industry Collaboration
Michael Scanlan, director at Clark Contracts, shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are pleased to be working alongside Alumno and the wider professional team to bring this development forward and look forward to seeing it progress on site.” He noted that this project further enhances Clark Contracts’ impressive portfolio, which includes the successful delivery of over 1,400 student beds in recent years.
Project Timeline and Funding
The development is being funded by Henderson Park, reflecting a growing trend in investment towards student accommodation projects within the UK market. The professional team supporting this initiative includes Stallan Brand Architects, RankinFraser Landscape Architecture, Will Rudd Davidson, Ridge and Partners, and Sound Advice Acoustics. The completion of this significant PBSA project is scheduled for just ahead of the 2027 academic year, highlighting the urgency of expanding quality accommodation options for the growing student population.
