A significant milestone has been achieved at Progress House, a new purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) project in Coventry, as Winvic Construction recently held a topping out ceremony to celebrate the completion of the building’s structure. The development, which features 544 beds, is on track for completion by summer 2027, marking an important addition to the UK student accommodation market.
Situated on Westwood Way, just a mile from the main campus of the University of Warwick, the six-storey building began construction in May 2025, following the demolition of an existing office structure to pave the way for this ambitious project. The scheme is set to include a substantial 4,000 sq ft ground floor commercial unit aimed at serving both the student residents and the surrounding local community.
Collaboration and Achievements
The topping out ceremony was attended by key representatives from Winvic, the client Gilltown, structural engineer Westlakes, and architectural firm GDL. This gathering celebrated not only the structural completion of the 185,736 sq ft building but also the collaborative spirit that has been instrumental throughout the project’s progression. Mark Jones, managing director for Multi-room at Winvic Construction, remarked, “Reaching this milestone at Progress House is a significant achievement for the entire project team and a proud moment for everyone involved.”
Jones highlighted the importance of the partnership between Winvic and Gilltown, stating that their joint efforts have been crucial in maintaining steady progress on site. As construction transitions to its next phase, he emphasised that the focus remains on delivering a sustainable building that offers an outstanding living experience for students while also creating social value for the local community through employment, training initiatives, and engagement with local businesses.

James Gillespie, director at Gilltown, echoed Jones’s sentiments regarding the project’s forward momentum.
