TIAA’s investment manager, Nuveen, has recently announced its acquisition of the Bravo Students purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme located in Spain. This deal, valued at around €330 million, represents a landmark transaction within the UK PBSA market, becoming the largest investment deal completed in Europe this year. The portfolio encompasses approximately 1,800 operational bedrooms situated across key cities including Madrid, Granada, Salamanca, and Murcia. In addition, there are plans for another 1,500 bedrooms currently under development in cities such as Zaragoza, Valencia, and Seville, highlighting the growing demand for quality student accommodation in these regions.
The scale of investment
In June 2025, Nuveen Real Estate, in collaboration with Global Student Accommodation (GSA), completed the acquisition of the YouFirst Campus PBSA portfolio from Gecina for approximately €540 million. This recent acquisition underscores Nuveen’s strategic commitment to expanding its presence in the European student accommodation sector. Over the past four years, the firm has invested in excess of €1.3 billion in various acquisitions across Europe, amassing a substantial portfolio that now includes around 10,000 bedrooms spread across countries such as France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Denmark, Portugal, and now Spain.
