Construction at the Freestone Road purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development in Bristol has successfully progressed to the internal fit-out phase, marking a key milestone as works continue within the Temple Quarter regeneration area. TudorMay has been appointed to oversee the drylining package for the 204-bed development, collaborating with Watkin Jones as preparations begin for the interior envelope of the building. This appointment signifies the next crucial stage of construction, steering the project towards its anticipated completion ahead of the 2027/2028 academic year.
Design and Sustainability Features
Designed by Chapman Taylor, the Freestone Road PBSA development will comprise four interconnected buildings arranged around landscaped courtyards. The architecture is inspired by Bristol’s industrial heritage, featuring brick façades and pitched roof forms that harmonise with the character of the surrounding area. The scheme aims to achieve an EPC A rating and BREEAM Excellent certification, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.
Residential Offerings and Amenities
Upon completion, the development will provide a diverse mix of cluster bedrooms and self-contained studios, strategically located opposite the University of Bristol’s Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus. The landscaped outdoor spaces are thoughtfully designed to offer both quieter areas for study and relaxation, alongside more active communal spaces catering to residents’ social needs. The property will be operated by Host.
Project Delivery and Future Outlook
Freestone Road is being delivered on behalf of a joint venture between Moorfield Group and Tiger Developments, with Watkin Jones acting as the development partner. The latest construction milestone follows the Gateway 2 approval earlier this year, which enabled work to commence on the brownfield redevelopment as part of the broader transformation of Bristol’s Temple Quarter.
