McLaren Construction Midlands & North has officially completed the second and final phase of iQ Longwood Place, a significant purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) project situated in close proximity to the University of Warwick. This milestone marks the culmination of efforts to provide over 1,200 student beds through a comprehensive regeneration initiative that has breathed new life into a previously underutilised business park.
The Project Overview
The completion of Longwood Place was realised through the collaborative efforts of McLaren Construction, working on behalf of Topland Vintage Group and McLaren Property, in conjunction with iQ Student Accommodation. The latest phase has introduced 637 additional beds, contributing to an extensive campus that encompasses nine residential blocks. This project has been instrumental in replacing outdated office structures and a former multi-storey car park, thereby enhancing the local landscape and student living experience.
Transformational Impact on the Area
The development required the demolition of Avon House, Swift House, and several associated structures to pave the way for modern accommodation. This approach not only increases the housing availability for students but also strengthens the overall student housing provision linked to the University of Warwick. The completion of Longwood Place is a significant achievement for McLaren Construction Midlands & North, who have now delivered a total of 2,870 beds across their projects in Coventry, Nottingham, and Manchester, thereby reinforcing their position within the UK PBSA market.
Statements from Key Stakeholders
Gary Cramp, managing director of McLaren Construction Midlands & North, expressed his pride in the project, stating, “The completion of iQ Longwood Place is a hugely significant milestone for McLaren Construction, Coventry, and the wider University of Warwick community. This development has transformed a former business park into a vibrant new student village and played an important role in re-energising the area.” He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with local authorities, community partners, and supply chain members throughout the project, emphasising a commitment to protecting and enhancing the environment surrounding the site.
William Davies, director of asset management at Topland Vintage, commented on the successful completion of the Longwood Place project, stating, “The delivery of Topland Vintage’s development for iQ at Longwood Place marks the very successful completion of our long-term project to transform a redundant office scheme into a market-leading student campus. All should be very proud of what has been created, and it has been a pleasure to work with such an expert team.” This sentiment reflects the collective effort and expertise that has gone into making this development a reality.
